CPD Talk at JSM — When Claims Unravel: Defence Strategies for Exposing Inconsistencies
On 25 August 2026, Simon Wong and Chris Wong were invited by Angela Yim, Partner at Johnson Stokes & Master, to deliver a seminar on “When Claims Unravel: Defence Strategies for Exposing Inconsistencies”, exploring how robust defence strategies can decisively challenge and defeat personal injury claims that fail to withstand scrutiny.
The seminar examined practical defence methodologies for deconstructing claims by testing the pleadings against medical records, contemporaneous documents, and the claimant’’s own account. Drawing on cases where courts rejected unreliable claimant evidence, the speakers demonstrated how to identify and leverage internal inconsistencies to challenge credibility and defeat otherwise plausible claims.

Simon is a dual-qualified lawyer, called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2007 and the California Bar in 2020.
He specialises in personal injuries law, and has advised on numerous cases involving a wide range of matters, including catastrophic injury, workplace accidents, medical negligence, public liability claims, traffic accidents, and industrial disease. His experience representing both claimants and defendants – among them over 30 local and international insurance companies – has provided him with insight across the spectrum of litigation.
In addition to his litigation practice, Simon has been actively engaged in mediation since obtaining accreditation in 2008. He has mediated over 200 disputes involving diverse subject matter.
Simon served as a Deputy District Judge in 2025, and Deputy Adjudicator of the Labour Tribunal in 2024 and 2025, reflecting his ongoing commitment to public service and the administration of justice.

Chris Wong
Prior to joining Chambers in 2024, Chris served as a Judicial Assistant at the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal, where he assisted the judges with substantive appeals, leave applications, and other works of the Court generally. Chris was called to the Bar in 2023, upon his completion of pupillage with Mr. Tony Li SC, Mr. Eric Leung, Mr. Robin D’Souza and Mr. Simon Wong.
During his legal studies, Chris competed in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, where he received honourable mentions both as an oralist and for the written memorandums.
Chris is developing a broad civil and criminal practice. He is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. He accepts instructions in all areas of work.
