This case arose from the storming of the “Civic Square” by student leaders who later led the “Occupy Central” movement.  Successfully reversed the Court of Appeal’s decision to impose custodial sentence on student leaders after the Secretary for Justice sought to review the sentence imposed by the trial magistrate.

Representing the Applicant to argue about procedural improprieties committed by the HKU Council in refusing to appoint Professor Johannes Chan SC for the post as Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

Successfully resisted an application for leave for judicial review seeking to unseat the Hon Au Nok Hin as a Legislative Council member, on the ground that the applicant had recourse through either an election petition under section 61 or disqualification proceedings under section 73 of the Legislative Council Ordinance.

Successfully obtain leave on the ground that substantial and grave injustice has been done to the applicants by reason of the Court of Appeal’s departure from the principle that an offender is to be sentenced on the existing or prevailing guideline or tariff of sentence existing at the time of the commission of the offence […]

Successfully defend the Hon Eddie Chu against the Applicant’s challenge because the Applicant has an unreasonable delay in paying security for costs under section 73 of the Legislative Councils Ordinance.
